Please rate this article. Another possible issue I just thought of. The link here is to a https page and the default setting in IE is to not save from encrypted pages. You might want to click on the wheel in the upper right hand corner of IE and select Internet Options and then Advanced. Scroll down to Security and disable 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' (It is a stupid setting anyways).I had this issue with some people on my Google sites page files as the Google sites pages are https.EDIT: I just checked in my IE with that option enabled and it only showed a Save option and when I pressed that IE just said it could not download. So, it looks like this is not your issue. or to post comments. Quick note to you - for some reason I can only choose to install the non-vital updates.
What ever Microsoft deems vital or important it automatically installs - can't do anything, my computer is theirs whenever they choose. This is the update that was done 11-26.When I shut down, Microsoft sends msg that updates are being installed and not to shut machine off, they will do that when complete. The next morning, Microsoft does what it wants as I can't get past the wonderful blue hp screen until Microsoft is done.so I have no say in many updates. Haven't been able to install updates from Intel and a few others since this whole IE11 mess.Thought you'd like to know, when this gets fixed - Firefox is going on my machine.Thanks. or to post comments. Have Win7 and IE9.
Just tried to install VTexplorer several times, but no go. My computer asks what file to use for Read.I tried Adobe Reader, then Notepad, then another - can't remember name, but it was in my choices and started with 'p'. First got banner across bottom asking if I want to Open or Save.won't do anything if I click Open, and the Save and Open option gets me very strange pdf files.Very Tech challenged when it comes to thing s like this. Why didn't I get the Run banner? Don't think I should have gotten the Open banner.?This sounded like the perfect thing for someone like me who has trouble with copy/paste URLs.Would appreciate any help you can give me. or to post comments.
Become a and go ad-free!The bottom line is that a download must be on your machine (or a machine on your local ) before you can check it for viruses. So, with that in mind, follow these steps to download safely:. Download only from sites you trust. I know this is kind of vague (how do I know what sites to trust?), but in general that means that downloads from major hardware and software vendors, major shareware site and other reputable companies. If you’re not sure, Google them to see if other people are experiencing trouble with downloads from that site.
Always download, and never run any download. For example many programs for Windows are provided as a downloadable “.EXE”, or file.
The default action for a “.EXE” file is to run it meaning that the program contained in the.EXE would be allowed to run and do whatever it might want. Instead, download the file to a directory on your computer first, so that you can take the next step. Scan the download for viruses before installing or running it.
Most anti- packages have the ability to scan a single file, or perhaps a single directory. Use that to point at the file or the directory you’ve downloaded your file into, and do the scan.
Make sure your anti-virus scanner’s data base is up to date. Consider an anti- scan as well. Assuming your anti-virus software reported no problems, install, run or otherwise use the download.

If you have reason to be paranoid, it often makes sense to re-run the anti-virus scan and the anti-spyware scan after you’ve installed your download. The bottom line is that a download must be on your machine before you can check it for viruses. So what if your download shows up as being infected? First, delete the copy you just downloaded immediately, so that it doesn’t get run by accident. If you can, see if you can find the same download from another source – sometimes is present only in some of the downloads of a particular piece of software. If you can’t find a clean download – please don’t fall to the temptation of installing it anyway – it’s not worth the risk unless you really know what you’re doing. Contact the supplier or manufacturer of whatever it is you’re downloading and report the issue to them.
If they’re at all reputable, they’ll deal with the issue quickly. First you should consider where you are downloading from and if you are downloading a game for free that you would otherwise have to pay for.If the answer is you are downloading from a third party site.you should be downloading from the developer site. That's the reason for even offering them for free. You can scan the file after downloading using security programs that you have installed on your computer.
MBAM would be a good choiceas well as Avast. Virustotal only can scan file not larger than 128mb.What if the file i wanna download is 500mb-1gb??Its a gameMost online malware scanners have a maximum file size limit. If the file requiring analysis is too large, you can use which allows up to 140 MB or download and use.

My question is how to torrent on a Windows machine (I have computers with Windows 7 and 8.1) with the least risk possible of getting a virus or malware on my computer. This entails a number of subquestions I have despite doing hours of research:(1) What is the best antivirus software to torrent safely?
I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 2015. Most important tip I could give is use ad-block. Most of the 'attacks' come in the ads from torrent site advertisers.1) I use Kaspersky as well, and haven't had any issues.2) Scanning what you download is much more important than the.torrent file.3) Not useful, if it gets executed, it doesn't matter whether its on the USB drive or your hard drive.4) Stay away from.exe and.zips. Music and movies never need to be in executable or zip form. Gamez and Appz can be torrented, but if you are new to this, stay away from anything executable. Executing a file generally refers to running it. Double clicking it for example.
Right clicking on a file and scanning it is generally safe. But learn (google) about file extensions. Someone concerned about safety and naive about viruses shouldn't download anything with a '.exe' extension. This means no games or applications, but will be safer.

Also stay away with anything with a '.zip' extension. For music and movies, there's no good reason for zipping files. Also as others have said look into a VPN. PIA is great and cheap. What are you looking to download?.
Thank you (and everyone) for the advice. One more question. I once read a comment on reddit in which someone said that he torrented a PDF and scanned it and there was an executable (.exe) embedded in the PDF. How do you avoid these kinds of files? I mean, is it possible for a file to have a safe looking extension, like.pdf or.epub or.mp4, but still contain an executable or other harmful qualities? Or was he meaning that he downloaded a PDF in like a zip file and the zip also had an executable in it?.
1) Kaspersky should be fine, other alternatives are Avast Free or BitDefender Paid (free version is plain awful)2) Antivirus scanners can miss files, just because it doesn't detect a virus doesn't mean there isn't one. Although for most things it will detect anything malicious.
Keygens also tend to trigger false alerts.3) Makes no difference, if the USB drive is plugged into the computer it's the same thing as saving it anywhere else. You have to actually run a file for it to do anything, so either way it's the same for safety.4) Read the comments, if it's too good to be true it probably is, check the file sizes (if something is smaller than it should be that's a big warning). Personally, I don't use any real-time AV. I hate wasting the resources and all the nagging. How do I stay safe? Pretty simple really.-I know my file extensions, and look them up if I don't recognize them.-I know roughly what filesize to expect for what I'm downloading.
This is made much easier by warez standards.-I read the comments on whichever site the torrent came from. That's about it, really. Torrents that aren't safe have a tendency to not get seeded, so the system itself works against bad torrents.

While there is a simple fix, it does require using the Terminal to accomplish. Many users might be wary of the Terminal, feeling like something could break and that it’s something only hackers and System Administrators use.
